Dan and Harry complete BREEAM qualification

C80 Solutions are delighted to report that two of our consultants have qualified in BREEAM New Construction 2018. The scheme is designed to support energy professionals in closing the gap between predicted and actual energy performance of new buildings. Its methodology involves more detailed energy modelling and more accurate predictions of energy use at early stages to support better design and construction of new buildings.

C80 Energy & Sustainability Consultants, Dan Chadwick and Harry Hinchliffe, completed the course at the BRE Academy and they are able to offer our clients enhanced knowledge and expertise in undertaking more comprehensive and accurate modelling of energy use at the design stage, including modelling alternative scenarios. Dan joined C80 in August 2019 and Harry arrived in January 2020. Both have become valuable members of our comprehensive team of highly skilled Building Control surveyors and consultants in energy assessment, building compliance, consultancy, and testing.

Dan said:

“It’s acknowledged that there is a significant gap between the predicted and actual energy performance of new buildings. Studies have shown that actual energy performance is between two and ten times higher than predicted performance determined by compliance calculations at the design stage. BREEAM New Construction 2018 provides a basis to address that issue. The course was very interesting and engaging from the point of view of an energy consultant.”

Harry said:

“The methodology of BREEAM New Construction 2018 compares predicted and actual energy performance at a disaggregated level to identify where performance gaps lie.  In doing this, we can identify specific actions to reduce the gap and establish a basis for continuous monitoring and improvement of energy performance. As energy consultants, we have a responsibility to promote a wider uptake of energy performance benchmarking and C80 are strong advocates of the principles behind BREEAM New Construction 2018.”
